Things To Do In Moorpark!

History Of Moorpark

Moorpark Farming, Apricots, Real Estate

Early Beginnings

The name "Moorpark" was chosen deliberately, much like its neighboring city "Thousand Oaks". Once upon a time, the area was adorned with magnificent Apricot trees that filled the valley with vibrant shades of oranges and yellows as far as the eye could see. Moorpark, for the majority of its existence, served as an agricultural hub for various dry crops, including hay, lima beans, black-eyed beans, and, of course, apricots. It was renowned as the "apricot capital of the world" due to the abundance of these delicious fruits.

In the early 20th Century, the Southern Pacific Railroad embarked on its journey through the scenic Santa Susana Mountains, forever changing the landscape. Along its path, a depot and post office were erected, and trains began passing through the area on a daily basis. This marked the birth of Moorpark as a community!

As time progressed, Moorpark experienced significant development in the late 70s, ultimately achieving cityhood in 1983. The advent of manufacturing attracted new families and businesses to the region, shaping Moorpark into the thriving and beloved town we cherish today.
